Falling in Love Over and Over
I’m back, I guess? Please kindly do not refer to my last (and only) post on this blog. More specifically, please avoid viewing the date of that post altogether. It is truly quite embarrassing how much time has passed since I published something here. But regardless of the date, or the sheer neglect on my part, I am back and I’m excited to begin my creative journey on this platform (again).
I have always thought of myself as a creative being. From a young age I loved to create, whether it was building a fantasy world around a simple dress-up outfit, or learning to draw the pokemon that I watched on TV, I was always up to something. As I got older, I began experimenting with fashion and makeup. I distinctly remember alternating between green and purple eyeliner each day to school at the ripe age of 13. In high school I was a drama kid (not surprising) and I found a true love for truly embodying a character. Around college age, when Instagram was in it’s infancy, I began styling outfits from my closet that resembled things I would see in the tabloids. Before we had carousels, we had to create collages in that small 1:1 square and boy was it a challenge to make it look cute. But I would go on posting my side-by-sides every couple of days or whenever inspiration hit. I miss those days.. When Tiktok began to take shape in 2019 is when I found new way to scratch my acting itch. I began creating makeup looks to go along with audios, filming them like I was the character in whatever movie or TV show the audio was pulled from, and uploading it for the fun of it. It really was fun.
Fast forward to now, I’m still finding sparks of creativity where I can. I’m working a full-time job and planning a destination wedding (I can’t believe it!!). Add that to trying to keep up with the ever-changing algorithms of social media, I think it’s fair to say that my creative sparkle has been sort of taking a siesta. Recently, however, I went out to shoot some content with my fiance. It was a rainy day, and I wasn’t sure I would love the overcast photos, but I was on a deadline and it had to be done. I decided to bring along my old Canon T2i and see if we couldn’t work a little magic with the settings. When I tell you, I was actually shocked how nicely the photos came out. I have had my eye on the ever-coveted G7x for years at this point, but that $1,400 price tag for a digital camera is something I wince at just thinking about. So Canon T2i it is! I’ll forever be grateful to the one photo class I took in college that allowed me the working knowledge of things like aperture and shutter speed. After fiddling around with the setting for a few shots, I got it locked in. Forced flash gave me that G7x look and the whole thing was *chef’s kiss*
I of course posted these to Instagram (linked below), but I felt so inspired by this small amount of effort and what I would call the sheer beauty of the results that I wanted to revive my blog. So what, you might ask, will I be posting about? Well, I can think of a few things.. mainly content creation tips, styling affordable looks, and probably some makeup junkie recommendations sprinkled in. But no topic is off limits this time, I want to share whatever is on my heart. I so badly wish to reconnect with the girl who was determined to stand on business in 2019 when she started this page and just got lost along the way. I can see many of us girls desiring a return to the ‘good old days’ of early Instagram bloggers and blossoming online communities, and I want to help fill that void. If not for you, at least for me. Maybe that’s a little narcissistic to say but hey, I think if you feel strongly enough to post content you think the world aught to see then you’ve probably got a sprinkle of narcissism in you somewhere. And maybe that’s controversial, maybe it’s not. Let’s talk about it! My comments are open.
Signing off for now,
